We recently had the pleasure of hosting an extraordinary group of students from the prestigious KNUST Department of Statistics. This visit served as a perfect opportunity for us to showcase our institution’s commitment to empowering young African talent and providing invaluable insights into careers in the ever-evolving world of technology.

The day commenced with a warm welcome, as our team eagerly greeted the aspiring statisticians from KNUST. The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation and curiosity. Introductions were made, and it was truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and passion that radiated from each student. We instantly knew that this was going to be an extraordinary day of learning, networking, and discovery.

Richard, our our CEO led the students on an immersive campus tour. After that, he sat down with the students for a bit of face time. He wanted to make sure to answer the most pressing questions they had.

How did you manage to excel in your academics while maintaining your place as a key player of the university soccer team?

I took control of my time. I realised that everyone has 24 hours in the day. Even if I slept for 8 hours, I would have 16 hours left. Let’s assume school takes 8 more hours. I’d still have a whole 8 hours left. For me, I invested them in KNUST Soccer team, Unity Hall soccer team representing KNUST and getting a bronze medal at the Ghana University Students Association (GUSA) Games and participating in the West Africa University Games.

I had more than enough time to pursue my hobbies, grow my relationships and do everything else. When I fully accepted this, I was able to make everything in my life work well together.

Do people need to have a software engineering background to enrol at Codetrain?

No you don’t. You only need to be willing to put in the work. And then once you pass our intake assessment, you’re in! Does a STEM background give certain advantages? Absolutely. But the good news is, our program is built with the beginner in mind. Over 70% of Codetrainers have come from non-STEM backgrounds.

What career paths could I access after Codetrain?

Any and every career path. Software engineering is seen as the entryway into a career in tech. Why? It gives you a framework for understanding how technology works. This knowledge shows itself to be valuable for careers in no-code roles like product management and UI/UX design. It’s almost essential for more technical roles like cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

I see that you talk a lot about community and impact. I want to know how Codetrain impacts the community.

Our work in itself creates impact for the country. We are upskilling African talent so they can get decent jobs and improve their livelihood.

The session went on to cover a wide range of topics, from emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and data analysis to industry trends and the importance of continuous learning in the rapidly evolving tech landscape. The students showed remarkable curiosity and enthusiasm, fuelling engaging discussions and inspiring everyone present.

As a primary goal of the event, we also highlighted the unique offerings and advantages of our code school. The students gained a deeper understanding of our curriculum, which focuses on hands-on learning, real-world projects, and industry collaborations. Our mission to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical skills deeply resonated with the KNUST students, who expressed great interest in our program.

To the students who couldn’t join us for this special occasion, we hope to see you soon. While we missed your presence, feel free to reach out we are always here to provide guidance and support in their tech journey.
