How Solomon Is Introducing Technology Into Test-taking In Ghana

23-year-old Solomon works in an organization that organizes exams for high school students. His zeal for IT was so high that he decided to take online courses to acquire tech skills. After getting in over his head, Solomon found us. Codetrain was able to offer him a well-defined structure to his learning and also gave him a solid community of developers to grow with.

Why did you join Codetrain?

I was curious to find out how computers worked. One day, a workmate sent me some links to some online programming courses. I took a Java course which I found difficult. I had no idea what I was doing. So I went online to search for schools that teach people to become programmers. I eventually found a Codetrain post. (It was a video of a very young boy showcasing apps that he has built). I was intrigued and decided to join Codetrain. I wanted to be like that guy!

How has the experience been so far?

It has been a great experience meeting new people with almost the same goal at a particular place. The teaching fellows being so great. Making new friends. So far so good, it has been a good experience.

What’s your dream?

Becoming an entrepreneur has always been my dream, and tech has made it clearer now.
Growing up, I’d always wanted to start an initiative where ladies get to interact and fall in love with tech. I remember growing up with just girls so vividly. I was consulted for things as small as sending a text. I dream of empowering women so that tech makes sense to them. I was excited when I found out about the #ladieswhocode hashtag. In the future, I’d love to contribute to that movement in whatever way I can.

How do you see your dream coming true through tech?

It sounded funny at first because I didn’t have any ideas to bring to life. Still, it was a dream I carried in my heart. Inspiration finally struck when I realized that in my current professional role, I can revolutionize test-taking and examination practices in Ghana. Students can write their exams, get graded, and be provided with their certificates online. I’ve already started work on this project and I’m excited about growing it to maturity. Clearly, Codetrain opened my eyes to this dream.

What’s your favourite thing about Codetrain?

The openness portrayed by the teaching fellows and the entire community at Codetrain has been one thing that makes me love Codetrain. I’m proud to be a Codetrainer and I hope they keep up the good work.
